Halloween humor

Some may recall Joy's 2009 costume suggestion:  "Mom, you should dress up like a margarita."  I'm good in green, but Seriously.

This year Joy was both a cheerleader - at work - and the world's most stunning 50's housewife when she and Nathaniel hit the town.  The circa 50's housewife reminded me of her wedding beauty.  Gorgeous.

The GranDogs are going to be in swimsuits this year.  A downgrade from last year's tutu.  I say, we can all breath a little freer if we avoid Zero in a speed0.  Joy thought rather than a speedo, she'd squeeze Z into a pair of her undah-wear.  But wait, didn't it cost an arm and leg last year to extract a pair of undergarment's from Z-dog's digestive tract? Let's rethink the outfit, shall we.
Meanwhile, Danielley ran 1/2 marathon - 13.1 miles - in Gettysburg, PA.  Two hours after start-time, our Marathoner was pulling through the tape, besting her San Francisco time of a few years back.  Excellent!
Yes, VA/PA apparently got their first snow drop
before we did in the SD Tundra.
More evidence of anthropogenic warming.

Favorite comment of the week (COW for short)

"Perhaps we should turn the tables so these occu-whiners understand the truth. Factoring in world poverty, healthcare and education they are actually the 1%. I know, I know it's not fair they were born in the greatest, most blessed nation on earth but there is a way to fix it: pack up your smelly tents, tarps and mattresses and get a one way ticket to any third world country and join the actual 99%!  And don't let the liberty hit you on the way out."

Gratitude

"God has shed his Grace on thee, America, and we will not squander what we have."  Governor Sarah Palin

Muddled confusion clarified

Let's always remember that the earth was made for man.  Humankind was not created for the earth.  This came to me today on my 800th bike mile of the season.

The fashioning of Adam and his beloved, Eve, were the crown jewels of God's creation.  Not the earth.  And as such, humans were to cooperatively, under God, manage the earth and it's resources, the fish of the sea and the animals included.  All of the treasures - aka, natural resources - are to be used by mankind for blessing and survival.  We are to be good stewards, working in synch with the Creator.  God made the garden to bless the man.  Not vice versa.

No one would argue that resources have not been exploited, animals used and abused, etc.  But let us not turn the whole thing on its head as a cure for abuse and exploitation.

Jesus our teacher

As students of Jesus, He teaches us the peaceable way of His life.  Usually His preferred way to speak to us is in our thoughts.

Here is how Jesus teaches His children:
1) Jesus does not scold; He instructs so that we can make wise decisions in keeping with His purposes.
2) The quality of His voice is weighty, but gentle.
3) It comes with a force to it.  Authority.
4) Because God is the most Joyous being in the universe, He comes to His children without condemnation.  He is discerning, telling us the truth, but He does not condemn.  (It is the devil who is the accuser, loading us with guilt.)
5) Jesus' words instruct and bring understanding.
6) The content will always match the principles of Scripture.
7) Ask for clarification.  Our walk with Christ is conversational.  He is, after all, called The Word.

What do we need today?  The ability to love our enemies?  How to clean up an oil spill in the gulf of Mexico?  The best approach toward a wayward child?  The means to forgive the unforgivable in a spouse?
Ask.  Seek and you will find.

Tree huggers

Since God commanded it, I'm all aboard:  "Tend the Garden," the Creator commanded.  Genesis 1:28

Clicking their knitting needles was the way an Atlanta knitting group decided to keep the command.  They made large knitted swaths to decorate the trees along the Atlanta BeltLine.  The yarn art is called Yarn Bombing.  "Yarn bombing is a way to knit big and make a colorful impact on an existing place or thing to make people take notice," explained Brigette Flood who organized the knitting tree huggers.

Reminds me of one of Dale Chihuly's scores of glass installations in Venice, Italy.  Not sure if this glorious display tends the canal 'gardens' but it sure qualifies as Beautiful.  And that pleases the good dear LORD.  "Whatsoever things are lovely...think on these things."

Poem of the week

ENDYMION by John Keats (1795-1821)

A THING of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.        5
Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing
A flowery band to bind us to the earth,
Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth
Of noble natures, of the gloomy days,
Of all the unhealthy and o’er-darkened ways        10
Made for our searching: yes, in spite of all,
Some shape of beauty moves away the pall
From our dark spirits. Such the sun, the moon,
Trees old and young, sprouting a shady boon
For simple sheep; and such are daffodils        15
With the green world they live in; and clear rills
That for themselves a cooling covert make
’Gainst the hot season; the mid forest brake,
Rich with a sprinkling of fair musk-rose blooms:
And such too is the grandeur of the dooms        20
We have imagined for the mighty dead;
All lovely tales that we have heard or read:
An endless fountain of immortal drink,
Pouring unto us from the heaven’s brink.

Michelle's new name?

35 seconds in, President Obama refers to his wife as "Michael and I."  If this man is the brightest bulb on the headlamp, no wonder we're losing our way.  Wow.

This is your Birthday song,

A couple of Scottish Friends joined me in my Surprise Birthday jaunt to celebrate JoyFul's 26th.   Several of Joy's closest friends joined us for the tasty "Taste of Italy."  Then off we went to Dempsey's for the Irish Band, Poitin.
So thankful the good dear Lord placed you in the MacMurchy family 26 years ago, Joy Kathryn MacMurchy Navratil.
