Chelsey and I (Danielle) survived our first California earthquake tonight - 5.6! We were sitting on our couch when our condo began to sway. The couch moved a little and the window blinds shook, but nothing too bad. Shira (roommate #3) came home a few minutes later to inform us that we have an earthquake safety kit in the closet! So we busted out the flashlight, granola bars and blanket - none of which was really needed. You never know though ... we hear the aftershocks can be pretty intense. Chel's still rolled up in a fetal position in our front yard. I'll lure her in with some chocolate ice cream. We've made counseling appointments to face our recently developed illness: seismophobia (fear of quakes). Here's the Chronicle's article about the quake:

It's not really an earthquake until the brick buildings begin to fall. You just had a California shake, nothing to worry about. You can tell it's a bad earthquake when the steel street light poles begin to sway.
And thanx for callin' the girls right away, Glenn, our Favorite Pap! They needed an encouraging word at their time of tremor! Goodness knows the mom was 4 states away and thoroughly useless.
Glad you survived! It was quite the little shaker.
Of course, I'm the jaded Californian — something inside me feels that it's not an earthquake until store goods fly off shelves and bookcases collapse. (Guess it's like you Midwest folks seeing a California winter and thinking "This isn't cold!")
At least it was a fun experience. Would have been more fun with some of that Earthquake vino, though.
And, of course, Hi to all the fam!!!
Hi Danielle!
I'm glad you made it through the big shake! Do you, by any chance, happen to have newspaper articles from the earthquake day? My class is beginning a unit on earthquakes and I like to bring in some info about real ones... not just what the science book has to say! Let me know if you do! annasmith27@gmail.com Hope you're doing well!
