Recipe for marriage given to Danielle at her wedding shower

Danielle ~ Much of this counsel I practiced in my 26 year marriage to your Dad. Some I learned after he was gone.

A 3-fold cord is not easily broken. Go with God.

I love you very much. the mom/care

RECIPE FOR A FULFILLING MARRIAGE

Be content. Thankfulness is the key to a joyful life.
You have great power over Aaron because of his desire to please you; use it with great discretion, never manipulating or exploiting his devotion to you.

In honor, defer to one another.

Do not take ‘upset’ personally. Move the furniture, let your spouse - or you - pitch a fit (get it off his chest) and move on. You won’t always see things the same. No worries; if you married a clone, you’d be bored stiff.

Respect is the fuel in Aaron’s tank. If he knows that he is respected (not acquiesced to), he will move mountains to please you.

It’s a balance of his Love for you, meeting your Respect for him.
“Wives respect - give reverance - to your husband.”

Danielle, you will be able to honor Aaron with respect in response to his “loving you as Christ loves the Church.”

“Will you forgive me” are the four words that cover a multitude of hurt.
Never let pride stand in the way of seeking reconciliation.

You need each other’s perspective on decisions. Welcome input and then close ranks when decisions are made. Never let anyone or anything come between you. Walk shoulder to shoulder.

Always seek win/win solutions. You know your Daddy always said that.

Dwell with one another with great pity (compassion, mercy, charity) knowing that we are forever and always God’s children.

Dwell with one another with understanding. What makes Aaron tick?
Find out and work with the ‘bent’ of his personality. He’ll do the same.

What do you enjoy doing together? Laugh and hold hands as you walk together. Always always hold hands.

Never show contempt. Become the kind of person who neither assaults nor withdraws. Speak the truth lovingly and ask for what you need. Remember the Rule of the Kingdom is to simply ask.

Together learn to do all that Jesus said. This will require becoming Jesus’ student. Take Jesus as your Master Teacher. He will teach you how to become Aaron’s helpmate. You will never lack for anything.

“Whatever you do whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
