Valentine's Day in the year of our Lord 2007

"I have the most wonderful Valentine story. Well now I'm not a huge fan since Robert left for Better Worlds two years ago Feb 26th. Not to mention Valentine's Day just might qualify as Ground Zero for the 'Day of Pressure and Obligation.' But I find that all holidays - and honestly every ordinary day in between - become sort of expeditions; how is the Good Dear Lord going to reveal His love to me today?

So here's what happened on Valentine's Day in the Year of our Lord 2007: I teach school and have a student named Stacey who is very dear to me. I'm in the learning center with children who have a very tough time learning in conventional ways; so my job is to offer them affirmation and a myriad of learning strategies.

So I'm in our room minding my own business and in waltzes our wonderful maintenance gal, Shari, "You don't owe me anything for this special delivery." Well it's these beautiful tea roses which is one of my faves and exactly what Robert would have sent. They're small and unobtrusive.

I'm dumb-founded and pert-near speechless which is highly unusual. The card says, "Mrs. M. From Stacey" Well I burst into tears, run up the stairs, grab Stac and tell her how thankful I am.

"Since Robert died, I don't necessarily expect anything on Valentine's, Stacey."

But let's not underestimate the Father's Delight in sending his children as ambassadors of His great love. Especially when we least expect it.

Pass those tissues...I can't even look at them in MY house with, "oh Care Care..." I am laughing right now.

Such a great story! What a blessing! You give so much of yourself and people love to show their appreciation.

I thank GOd every day for the young people in my life. At my difficult moments, they rush up with a hug, a greeting or a great big "I love you even if you are a principal smile." :)

There are no kids like McKinley kids.

There are no teachers like McKinley teachers, either.

Can I come back?
